Keep on running…

Southend has the accolade of having the longest leisure pier in the world at over one and a third miles. It was built so long in order to reach the deep water Channel for the steamers from London. So to run down it and back again seemed like a good thing to do for 60@60! I also added in running to the station at each end to bulk it up to 6 miles.

Those on Facebook will also know that early yesterday morning I went to see a steam engine that was based in Hull in the 60’s. I may well have seen it growing up but never as an adult. Interestingly it’s number starts with 61 which I will be in a few weeks and if you read the last two numbers in reverse it’s 60!

As I do these things I am reminded of those who don’t have the freedom I have. 61306 was delayed in its journey yesterday because the water tanker didn’t arrive on schedule. Many Christians around the world have to walk much further than the length of Southend Pier to gain access to water because they are refused access to the village well. In India; in Pakistan; in Nigeria 🇳🇬 they are told their presence pollutes the water. Denied food in covid distribution, they are ostracised by their communities; called names; beaten. How must that feel? Please pray for them.

Thanks as ever for your support and giving, which makes a huge difference to people who will never be able to thank you personally but give thanks for your generosity.

Turning 60 is a door to a new decade. I want to use these years positively, starting with the next one. So I want it to be a year of trying different things as well as familiar one and to do a couple of challenges. 60 things at 60 with the aim of raising £6 000 for the charity Open Doors, serving persecuted Christians around the world, many who live with very little. Would you be part of the adventure with me?
